What is the plan of care?

  • This is the formal plan decided and agreed upon as a team by the parent, therapist, and physician. This plan includes: Identified areas of deficit to target, goals that will be addressed in sessions, and the frequency of treatment sessions.

Do parents/caregivers need to stay for the sessions?

  • This will vary. Some sessions may be appropriate for the parent to join, but for other sessions it may be more appropriate for the parent to remain in the waiting room. This will be a discussion between you and the child's occupational therapist. For every session however, the final portion will include a discussion to summarize the session and provide recommendations to the parent for the next week’s session.

Will I learn things to do at home with them?

  • Absolutely! A child's success in therapy will be dependent on the consistency between all of the child/teen's providers (parents, teachers, therapist, etc.). In order to address the area of concerns or improvement, the therapist and caregiver must work together as a team to implement and monitor the success of their interventions. We will continuously work to make sure you feel we are providing for your child's therapy needs even outside of the clinic!

Do you talk to my child's school?

  • Collaboration with your child’s education team to address the child’s needs is beneficial and even essential to treatment. It allows the therapist and school to work together as a team to implement and monitor the success of their interventions. If you would like your child’s therapist to speak with their school please fill out the release of information found in our registration documents.

Will I need a referral to see an occupational therapist?
  • Yes. A physician referral/approval is required for both evaluation and plan of care (treatment sessions). A physician referral is also required every 6 months for continuing plan of care. Please provide front desk with referral so that they may keep a copy on file for our records.

What should I do if you don't accept our type of insurance?

  • You may contact your insurance for a list of providers covered under your network. You may also see if your insurance would be willing to authorize services to be provided at our facility. If you find that there is no coverage through your insurance and would like to receive services from our facility we do offer self-pay rates.

How do I know what diagnoses are covered by my insurance?

  • As a courtesy our front desk staff will verify your benefits prior to your first appointment. If there is an established diagnosis or presenting issue please disclose this information during your initial intake. This allows for the insurance company to give us a general quote of benefits. It is also highly recommended that as the insurance holder you contact your insurance as well; often times the insurance company will provide the member with a more detailed explanation regarding covered services and diagnoses.

Do you offer groups?

  • Healing Center does offer multi-disciplinary groups (mental health and occupational therapy) throughout the year at our clinic. Groups will be advertised on our Facebook page, at our clinic, and by recommendation by your child’s individual therapist. We request our parents and families vocalize group topics of interest to our front desk staff, so that we are better able to offer groups that are of interest to our clients!

What do I need to fill out before our first appointment?

  • Before the first appointment there will be an occupational therapy intake packet for you to fill out. This assists the therapist with understanding your child's functioning across all areas of "occupation" (play, self-care, sleep, feeding, social pursuits, etc.). Please turn in your paperwork at least 24-48 hours prior to coming for your initial visit.

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

  • We understand that situations arise in which you must cancel your appointment. It is therefore requested that if you must cancel your appointment you provide more than 24 hours’ notice. This will enable another person who is waiting for an appointment to be scheduled in that appointment slot. When cancellations are made with less than 24 hours’ notice, we are unable to offer that slot to other people.
  • Office appointments that are cancelled with less than 24 hours notification may be subject to a $150.00 Cancellation Fee.
  • Patients who do not show up for their appointment without a call to cancel an office appointment or procedure appointment will be considered as NO SHOW.  Patients who No-Show two (2) or more times in a 12 month period may be required to prepay for future appointments, or denied future appointments.  Patients may be subject to a $150.00 No Show Fee.
